Celebrating Mexico's African roots, this shirt features Pio Pico, the last Mexican Governor of Mexican California. Pio Pico was Afromestizo — a Mexican of African descent.
Yanga
Yanga is a town in Veracruz, Mexico — the first town for self-emancipated Blacks in the Americas. Named after Gaspar Yanga, the African leader who fought off Spanish forces and negotiated freedom for his people.
Vicente Guerrero
Vicente Guerrero was the first Black president in North America, becoming the second president of the Republic of Mexico on April 1, 1829. A leading general of the Mexican War of Independence — the state of Guerrero is named after him.
